Find Accredited X-Ray Technician Schools in Wisconsin

One of the first steps towards becoming a radiologic or X-Ray Technologist in Wisconsin is to find an approved X-Ray technology college in Wisconsin. Generally, for a school to be approved for this profession, it must be accredited by the Joint Review Committee on Education in Radiologic Technology (JRCERT). According to the American Registry of X-Ray Technicians (ARRT), there are approximately 20 JRCERT-accredited schools in Wisconsin.

Students in an x-ray technology program take theoretical classes on radiography as well as practical courses where the student gets hands-on training. The student also completes clinical education and an internship in a hospital’s radiology department. Radiologic technology programs, which are usually two-year programs, generally result in associate degrees, although students may also pursue bachelor’s degrees as well.

How to Get Certified in Wisconsin

Wisconsin requires that their radiology techs be certified and licensed. To obtain certification, the individual must pass an exam administered by the ARRT. To be eligible for ARRT certification, the candidate must complete a JRCERT-accredited training program, pass the ARRT certification exam and meet ARRT’s ethics requirements. Effective January 2015, anyone wishing to obtain ARRT certification must have at least an associate degree.

Once the candidate has obtained certification, he or she can apply for a license in Wisconsin. The candidate can get a license if he or she can perform all types of radiography procedures or a Limited X-Ray Machine Operator permit if he or she is limited to the type of procedures that can be performed.
