Tennessee has sixteen schools with accredited radiology training programs. One program is at Volunteer State Community College in Gallatin, which offers an associate’s degree of Applied Science in Radiologic Technology. Students must take two semesters of general education first. Another school is the Southwest Tennessee Community College in Memphis. Their program lasts seven semesters and is the cheapest per year. A third school is the Columbia State Community College. Their program accepts only 23 each year. These three schools all have students do clinical rotations. Some of the other schools include the Baptist Memorial College of Health Sciences in Memphis, South College in Knoxville, Austin Peay State University in Clarksville, Chattanooga State Community College, and Concorde Career College in Memphis.

How to Get Certified in Tennessee

X-ray techs in this state must be licensed by the Tennessee Board of Medical Examiners. They must be certified by the American Registry of X-Ray Technicians by passing their exam. They must also have graduated from an accredited radiology program and then apply for a license. To maintain the Tennessee license, X-ray techs must get 20 continuing education credits. To renew the ARRT certification, people must complete 24 continuing education credits every two years. The credits can overlap for both certifications.
